There's more to do here than just sit on the beach

From Cape Canaveral south to Sebastian inlet, Florida′s Space Coast has over 70 miles of sunny and spectacular Atlantic Ocean shoreline that′s perfect for fishing, surfing, boating, swimming, building sand castles, or just plain rest and relaxation. There are also miles of protected wildlife refuges flourishing along the surf for wildlife viewing and bird-watching.

The Merritt Island Excursion is a three-hour boat ride available every Sunday. The tour takes visitors on a destination tour to Port Canaveral, Florida. Departing Merritt Island, the journey begins on the Banana River, travels to the Barge Canal, enters the Canaveral Locks and continues with a waterfront view of the ports great diversity of businesses. See the ports cargo, foreign trade zone, fishing, and military and submarine base. While passing the cruise ships, the Captains greet each other with the honk of a horn and enthusiastic passengers waving you on. Before returning to the home port of Merritt Island, the Captain takes a quick detour to the local tiki bar and marina to watch the boat follies and meet the locals. There is also plenty of time to see the day′s fresh catch as the fishermen proudly display their prize fish.

Canaveral National Seashore is a natural refuge area of beaches and sand dunes where giant loggerhead and green turtles come ashore from May to late August to lay their eggs.

The marshy Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge is home to more endangered species than any other refuge in the United States and features sea turtles, alligators, and eagles as well as excellent driving and walking trails.

Cocoa Beach is a popular resort area famed for surfing and a lively nightlife. The Cocoa Beach Pier stretches 800 feet into the Atlantic Ocean, offering exceptional fishing and scenic views.

Sebastian Inlet Park in the south county area is the premier saltwater fishing spot on Florida's east coast. A  favorite for anglers nationwide for catching snook, redfish, bluefish, and Spanish mackerel from its jetties, the park also features two museums which provide a history of the area.

The McLarty Treasure Museum features the history of the 1715 Spanish treasure fleet; the Sebastian Fishing Museum tells the history of the area′s fishing industry. Three miles of beautiful beaches provide opportunities for swimming, scuba diving, snorkeling, shelling, and sunbathing. Surfing is also a popular recreation and several major competitions are held here every year. Canoeing and kayaking in the Indian River Lagoon are also favorite pastimes. Visitors can relax with a stroll down the mile-long Hammock Trail and waterfront pavilions and picnic areas are great for family outings. Full-facility campsites and a boat ramp are available. Sebastian Inlet is located on State Road A1A just 15 miles south of Melbourne Beach.
